NBH Solutions Consulting
May Lead to $900k in Federal Funding for Colleges
Manchester,
NH - Aug 15, 2006
To support the
recently completed upgrade of Banner administrative software systems, NBH
Solutions re-designed the wide-area-network infrastructure and the central
data center used by the New Hampshire Community and Technical College System
to link seven colleges. Now, this new communications infrastructure is
serving as a springboard for additional funding to continue expansion of
technology and improvement of academic programs and student services.
Senators Judd
Gregg and John Sununu (R-NH) recently announced Senate Appropriations
Committee approval of $900,000 for New Hampshire Community Technical College
programs. The Fiscal Year 2007 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education
Appropriations bill includes $500,000 for efforts based out of NHCTC’s
Concord facility to modernize the colleges’ communications system. The
Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development (TTHUD)
Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2007 contains $400,000 for the
development of a photonics and laser technology program at NHCTC’s Pease
campus. With Committee approval of the funding, the legislation moves to the
full Senate for consideration later this year.
NHCTC has a
mixture of legacy and disparate network technologies linking their seven
campuses together. NHCTC plans to use Federal funding to expand the
communications system through three initiatives.
Increase
bandwidth between college locations by upgrading routers and switches.
Facilitate telecommunications between seven colleges by standardizing and
creating reliable telecommunications through the purchase of PBX phone
systems and network enabled (VoIP) phones. Support intra-campus reliable
high-speed communications with network switches, fiber optic cable, wireless
connectivity for laptops and new Category 5e data cable. Senator Gregg, a
member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, stated: “The New Hampshire
Community Technical College system provides a diverse curriculum focused on
preparing students for many different work force opportunities. This funding
will help the entire system modernize a much outdated communication system,
providing students and faculty with the most up-to-date Internet
communication abilities. In addition, the funds for the Pease campus will
create new high- tech learning environments, preparing students for jobs in
New Hampshire’s strong high-tech community.”
Richard
Middaugh, President of NBH Solutions, observed, “This funding continues our
history of successfully helping client colleges obtain external funding. In
the past year, our consulting contributed to the approval of $16 million to
expand technology at the City College of San Francisco and provided the
infrastructure enabling a National Science Foundation grant of $750k for the
development of a photonics program for a California college. In addition, we
are helping our clients look ahead. Two colleges used our consultants to
write attractive grant proposals with the potential of $5 million in funding
to support institutional programs and development using technology plans
developed BY NBH Solutions. These accomplishments demonstrate that we truly
understand higher education.”
